With wings torn and limbs dismembered, Vitriolic Sage rose from the soma of flesh in the age of 2020, utilising a unique expression of depressive black metal that focuses on technical application of manifold melody and invigorating construction. Formed by J.L (Ὁπλίτης) of Chinese heritage, Vitriolic Sage has carved a distinct vision for this entity, using his skills in Sino-Tibetan languages, amongst others, to delve deep into both esoteric and philosophical themes. Vitriolic Sage’s third full-length incantation, 夢路, is no stranger to these previous outings and is perhaps its most furious expression to date; featuring a whole host of eclectic tremolo melodies, expansive spell construction, experimental percussive ruin, sorrow laden samples, pristine pure production, blistering bpm brutality, howling vocal oration and a complicated thematic shrouded in ennui enigma.

The dissonant bleakness of the first track is less weird and more hypnotic than on the second track. That's why I like it a little more. But both songs together make for an extraordinary experience and a journey to the arhythmically beating heart of darkness. mourner
