Emitting its evocations since 2009, Aek Gwi is a crushing dark black doom ambient entity hailing from South Korea, one that has Vhan (Biological Warfare and Shadows of Black Candlelight) at its helm and is a part of the infamous Circle of the 4444 Reich. Dead’s Grudge is the latest incantation of Aek Gwi after a six year hiatus and proves that, despite this length of time, Aek Gwi still holds the power of sonic horror hypnosis over those experiencing its primitive ritual sounds. Brimming with rasping funerary chants, crushingly slow percussion, mesmerising power chords, nightmarish ambient sections, suffocating smoke production and a medley of folk instrumentation; Dead’s Grudge is an incantation steeped in a macabre mysticism, one that draws the listener deeper into its charnel coffin depths with each ritual croaked by wretched whispers.
