Existing first briefly between 2008-2010, and then resurrected nearly a decade later in 2019, Dopamine have always held a strong presence as one of the most potent blackgaze entities to hail from China; Jiang, Deng and Zhao all working in slumberous conspiracy to bring a small collection of depressive dreams to their acolytes over the ages. Building on the momentum started with their first return incantation, Dying Away in the Deep Fall, follow-up EP incantation, Evanescent, is a three spell taster of a full incantation yet to be fully forged. Awash with soporific guitar melodies, hypnotic mid-paced percussion, long instrumental passages, infrequent black howls, tranquil nostalgia thematics, and contrasting sections of calm reverie clashed with black metal fury; Evanescent is a vision caught in the slow-motion sonic sombreness of a winged dream, the vagueness of existence caught in the reflections of the mayfly’s immortal flight.
